Way back when, we had a Recessionista wedding contest full of all sorts of creative budget ideas for your wedding. Since then, I’ve found myself wondering how all the ideas that our contestants had turned out. So I was really excited when one of our 40 finalists, Lacey and Sam, reached out to me about their July wedding.
They had the clever idea to put flowers in tea tins. I’ve seen a little bit of that since they presented their idea, and even featured a tea tin centerpiece in a photo gallery recently. But they took the idea a step further and went to a coffee shop, where they got a ton of tins for free and made sure they had enough so that every female guest could take a tea tin centerpiece home as a wedding favor. So the favors only cost the price of the flowers they were going to buy anyway.
The wedding was full of other innovative budget ideas as well. From bride Lacey:
Our wedding took place outside of Portland, Ore., my hometown, at the McMenamin’s Cornelius Pass Roadhouse. Sam is from Minneapolis, where we now reside. We wanted to combine the outdoor natural setting with a vintage look/feel. It was also important to us to play up the space — our reception was in their historical octagonal barn — and the venue’s offerings as much as possible to treat both our local and out-of-town guests.
